Leslie Wildman

Leslie Wildman grew up in a small town (pop. 2,000) near Chicago. Soon after beginning piano lessons at the age of six, she started composing. Leslie studied music composition in high school and continued her training at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. After graduating, she moved to the Bay Area to study with Andrew Imbrie.

Leslie attended UC Berkeley briefly, receiving a Masters in Music Composition, then left to study at Indiana University. Deciding not to pursue a doctorate, she moved to New York City, where she was active as a freelance composer. She then returned to the Bay Area, where she presently resides.

Leslie Wildman has worked with many exceptional performers throughout the world. She enjoys composing specific works for a performer's specific situation. For instance, for Suzanne Summerville, a singer in Alaska, she composed songs with texts by Inuit poets. For a women's chorus in Vienna, Leslie has written songs with texts by women from many different centuries and countries.

She is also very interested in creating performance or multi-media pieces. For Kristin Norderval, a singer in Oslo, and Monique Buzzarte, a trombonist in New York, she composed a theater work with Sappho fragments as the text. She is presently working with Julie Queen, a singer in San Francisco, on a theater work with video.
