WWW users often have problems accessing audio
players and converters. For MPEG players and converters, I recommend the
MP3 site.
Here you will find encoders and players for MP3 files. The following WWW
sites supply audio freeware or shareware tools that may be
used to play back audio files with .wav extensions or to convert .wav files to
.au and other file types.

"Audacity - The Free, Cross-Platform Sound Editor"

"SoX Wrap for MAC Audio Conversion Utility"

FYI: the .wav file format was used by
Microsoft for their Windows operating system. It is not commonly used in the
MAC, Amiga, or Unix world. Therefore, non-Windows users usually convert to and
from .wav to .au, .aiff or other file formats.
The SoX (Sound eXchange) utility for DOS and UNIX can perform
two-way conversions from/to the .wav format. For instance, if you are using
Windows Sound System's Quick Recorder to record a didj cut as a .wav file, you
can then convert the .wav file to an .au format with the SOX utility.
