From guanylim at hotmail.com Mon Dec 4 02:33:50 2006 From: guanylim at hotmail.com (Guan Lim) Date: Mon, 04 Dec 2006 21:33:50 +1100 Subject: [Didjeridu] Merry Christmas from Guan & trad Europe Tour 2007 In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Just a short one to everyone who is on the list... Merry Christmas! A bit early I know, but I won't be around during Christmas as I am going away as of tomorrow for a holiday... the first proper one I've had in over 10 years come to think of it. I want to say thank you too to everyone who has corresponded with me during 2006, and to those who have supported iDIDJ Australia in one form or another. It has been a challenging but good year, with highlights including the establishment of the iDIDJ artist-in-residence program; the tour of Korea by Milkay, Djakapurra, and Nalkuma; and the creation of a unique YouTube channel focussed on Arnhem Land culture, tradition, music, and performance: http://www.youtube.com/ididjaustralia Check it out if you haven't seen the recent film clips. Better still, subscribe to the ididjaustralia channel to be in it to win it - more great discounts, offers and freebies coming up in 2007! Some other good news... after the Korea trip, Milkay has been asking me constantly if there are other gigs and tours that he can participate in. I've been in talks with a few others and am happy to announce that there are plans to bring some culture to Europe in mid-2007. The warmer months in 2007 would be best, to coincide with festivals and music events in Europe. I'm thinking the duo comprising of mago wonder Darryl Dikarrna Brown and yirdaki virtuoso Milkay Mununggurr could be a possibility. And/or a traditional dance group with the full complement of singers, dancers and yirdaki/mago instrumentalist. If anyone in Europe is interested in taking on the responsibility of helping to organise this tour, please contact me directly. I would need to know dates of festivals and festival budgets to bring people over from Australia. It would be good to take in Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK. I'm thinking 3 to 4 weeks to do the whole tour. Basically, we will go anywhere in Europe if funding/sponsorship is assured. Please contact me at info at ididj.com.au with details. This is a major undertaking, so please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in helping out. There is nothing definite yet, it all depends on how things transpire over the next couple of months and how much interest there is in Europe. So if you want to see Milkay and Darryl and other countrymen in Europe this summer, get in touch with me now! Be safe everyone and hope the end of year gives us time to reflect on events past and to remember the things that are most important to us. Looking forward to catching up with everyone when I get back in January :-) Guan _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: It's simple! Since the DidgeFest isn't in my backyard anymore I don't get to see many folks, and the list is rather quiet these days. I still play in the backyard or when we go camping.I haven't made a pvc/abs didge since Lewis helped me make mine at Jtree. It's the only one I play now, although I love to astound my students by picking up a cardboard tube or piece of pipe and playing it for a couple of minutes.
