Well, David Corter's Divining Rod cd might be best described, one word,
as Experimental. It is a series of tone poems, each one featuring a
different lineup of juxtaposed instruments. Bear in mind that
instruments is a broad term here - it includes the use of their mixing
console's cross fading feedback. The didj itself is always included, but
seems to be almost a counterpart to each new ensemble. For me, some of
the tone poems did not develop in any fashion. These tracks seemed
episodic, sort of like Shostakovich, starting and stopping in the same
place, not having done much. A few of these explorations were developed
more fully, and could keep me involved. Corter seems to be searching for
new ways to use the didj, outside of pop music's cliches. That's a tough
job.
