You can get non-toxic, environmentally friendly 2-part epoxy putty here:
http://www.avesstudio.com/Products/products.html

It comes in many colors, works great for mouthpieces, and is non- 
toxic. Don't know if you would avoid the allergic reaction you had,  
Gusty, but I feel a lot better putting my mouth on this stuff than  
the highly toxic putty from the hardware store.
