it is worth a lot, to the people who are really interested.  
and it's terribly worthwhile to have alternatives to big-money stuff
happening somewhere.  and so you attract the kind and number of listeners 
who are also 'alternative'.  wouldn't you feel weird about your music if 
it appealed to madonna fans?

ps- i was using 'weirdos' in an affectionate, not critical, sense.
