Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records passed away a couple days  
ago. He signed everybody from Ray Charles and Aretha to Coltrane and  
Ornette Coleman to Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones.

also, the famous Dirk Richardson of the infamous Mabuhay Garden died  
a couple months ago. I spent a few moments of my youth throwing  
popcorn and epithets at him. (Does anyone remember the bowls of  
popcorn at the Mab? They often got confused with ashtrays or urinals)
