[NewMusic] Noah Vawter: Ambient Addition

I looked at the quicktime movie (yeah-low res, bad sound)
demonstration of Ambient Audition, it consisted of street noises–
cars, construction crews, people, etc. processed to sound like a lot
of sampled/electronic music I hear performed. Although it takes the
control of the processing out of the hands of the user, they still
retain the decision of what to listen to, or sample. It was
interesting to hear how it changed the sound of an arm full of planks
being tossed out of a window into a dumpster. Yesterday, a crew was
cutting up the driveway next door, making a hellish noise with jack
hammers and concrete saws, it would have been nice to test out this
gadget on that horrible racket instead of fleeing the house.

I think it's important to remember that this thing was an academic
project and most likely will not show up in Best Buy for a couple of
years. In the meantime, I'm sure their will be plenty of other things
to send shivers down your spine, like reading the newspaper.
