Matt, I remember when the Best Buy opened in SR, too (I grew up in SR). Apparently, whoever was in charge of the cd department at that store decided to order just about everything from the distributor before the store first opened, including a lot of rare jazz titles. Of course, once they were all purchased (it didn't take long!), they didn't bother to restock those titles.
I used to work at the Last Record Store while I was going to the SRJC. Even though they had to move to Mendocino Ave a few years ago., still a great independent store.

In 1995 or so, Best Buy opened up a store in Santa Rosa, where I lived at
the time. When it first opened, the cd and movie section took up about half
the store, and their cd offerings were actually impressive. (For example,
they stocked about 15 different Nurse With Wound titles.) After about 2
months, all the interesting cds disappeared, and they started specializing
in country and/or rap music to match the local tastes.
Now I'm getting all nostalgic about my teenage/college Santa Rosa days,
browsing at the Last Record Store on 4th Street.
