My understanding has always been that it refers *both* to spamming the list
with your own gig and accidentally posting a private message to the list.

I'm still using the term because it's more fun that way than saying, "now now,
stop doing that," like a pompous netiquette nazi.

Brian Kenney Fresno has a hella cool song about sausages.  See his myspace
under "Donnerybeck's Machine". ;)
