[NewMusic] Zorn-o-rama and recent shows

Three Digi-pinions to clog your inboxes:

1.) I grew up in the Catskills so I guess I could be considered the
resident expert on Catskilltology. Case in point: Borscht belt
allusions aside, one thing can be said for certain - restaurant
portions up there ain't small - we're talking horse troughs here,
people. Almost to the point of sickening excess with only a small
handful of exceptions, the best one being New World Home Cooking.
Mostly vegan cuisine with a numerical scale for spiciness. Anything
above a 7 can't be taken back and you have to sign a waiver for
anything over a 9 - they don't fuck around, either - that shit is hot!
Food for thought (punny, haha) if you ever end up in said part of
country. Arguably, there's also a decent scene up there, provided
you're willing to coax the players out of hibernation... hmm, not sure
how this contributed to the funnyhaha of the proposed joke, but now we
know... thanks, professor!
2.) Orange camo? Yikes, I saw him wearing those things like 6 years ago
at the Hammerstein Ballroom in a duo with Elizabeth Streb. skronkskronk
slam! poppopskronk! slamslamslam! Skronk!!! Take a bow, walk off stage.
Regardless, I'd love to know a.) where he got those things and b.) if
they're available in any other color than obnoxious orange... at this
point I can barely go 6 months before my trousers are reduced to
something fitting for a character in an animatronic ride about
pirates...
3.) $2 student discount - fucking insulting. What the hell is $2 going
to save us academically impaired - bus fare!? a handful of ramen!?
Granted that was probably the decision of the promoters and what have
you, but come on if you're going to offer some sort if incentive for
this here cultural ilk, at least make it count for something. Then
again, when you know that there's a good contingency of folks out there
willing to pay top dollar for admittance and the current ticket price
might dissuade the kids out there in tvland who were exposed to Zorn
through the Colbert Report and would be more than willing to show up
tophat in hand to dance along to "The Firebox... or was it
Freebird!?"... Actually, I think I would have paid just to see that :)
- too bad I was out of town last weekend - it sounded like Zorn put on
some good shows...
