As John mentioned the other day, The Stone was setup for a venue for the
New York Community of artists and all the door money goes to the
musicians.  The rental on the space is from the label.  How it works out
is that his recordings are the one usually that turn a profit so they
are paying for the space.

I was aware of this policy (at the Stone) and wanted to say that I
admire the level of commitment and "giving back" that Zorn has done -
you'd have to be asleep to think otherwise.

shudder plays the Stone next week - we'll see how much the door brings
on an eve before Thanksgiving...i'm stoked to play with lance and kyle
regardless of receipts...and thankful that Miya booked us - we were able
to put together a few more gigs out there, so hopefully we won't freeze
to death from lack of funds.
