also be curious to know what zorn's rent was back
then. won't find anything like it these days, though
starving jobs pay just the same as then and tuitions
have gone up faster than the rents....

PG:
I have a pretty good idea - my high school girl friend has a place in
the east village on the block behind Zorn's and she moved in around 1982
(she now lives in Chelsea with her husband and continues to use it for
her studio - she's an artist herself - the place has been mine to use
whenever I go out there for years now - what a gift!).

Anyway, it's a rent-controlled apartment. It's basically the same kind
of tenement two-room studio that Zorn has - he may have a little bit
more room. She still pays $475 for that apartment, but since JZ moved in
before she did, he may pay less; I wouldn't know...

Still, Laura (my friend) has a killer deal (can you imagine paying that
much for a place in that neighborhood? - 9th street between 1st Avenue
and Avenue A).

It's sad, but it may go away - the old Polish guys that used to own the
building died and it was sold - so now, she may lose the place - same
old story.
