[NewMusic] instrument insurance?

I'm not sure what folks are paying for Clarion, but if you're a member
of Chamber Music America ($100 a year), the insurance costs $100 a
year...so it's $200 for the year...not sure the Chamber Music America
membership is worth it otherwise...I've never seen any benefit, apart
from being invited to submit grant proposals (that I never seem to get).

This is the advantage of an insurer like Clarion. You get the appraised
value for replacement of the instrument.

In addition, some insurance policies will go as far as to call "used for
playing in public" playing "professionally", so your claims of starving
artisanship may be DENIED, also many put caps on amounts for musical
instruments, computers and tools (construction/automotive) which may
leave you with $1000 to replace your Selmer Mark VI....

Keep in mind that in general, homeowner's and renter's insurance
policies can cover musical instruments, unless they are used
"professionally" (i.e., a portion of one's income is earned from
music made with said instruments).
I suppose one could claim that as a "new music" practitioner, no
noticeable income is involved. . .
