I find myself getting increasingly interested in music that I would have
derided as unbearably sappy a few years ago. Perhaps it's not so much a
matter of aging as working in a corporate CD shop, but I find myself
really connected to some incredibly middle-of-the-road stuff.
Last night I was in an improv where we were working with elements from
pre-existing music. I had chosen as my source material the Love Theme
from the movie "Love Story." As I worked with it, I found myself
realizing what a wonderful melody it is, and thinking that singing it
straight through felt more rewarding than fragmenting it.
But Rod Stewart should still have been put out of his (our?) misery
years ago...
