Hello all!
I'm currently in the process of putting together a list of Bay Area
music resources for music students at Mills (to be sent out once at
the beginning of each semester). The idea is to make it easier for
students to find out what there is available in the Bay (concerts,
venues, mailing lists, radio stations, places to buy CD's etc.). I
know that there are a lot of good websites already up, but this is to
help save on the confusion and difficulty that a lot of new students
(especially from outside of the area) might experience when they
first arrive (it also saves on at least several hours worth of google
time).
So, in the hopes of making things easier for everyone (ie. doesn't
take a several months to a year and a half to find out and get a
grasp on all that goes on) please send me any and all information you
might have about what things take place and where!
(I know about the standard things (Transbay, New Music Digest/Events)
but for other things (Noise Pancakes (still don't know how to get
ahold of all of the dates), radio stations, concert series, places to
buy music, other lists etc.) I am sure that I am missing a LOT of it.)
This will not be a promotions or bookings list (only sent out once at
the beginning of each semester-not regularly- but copies will be made
available on a regular basis through the music department) but more
of a resource list for where things take place and how to (somewhat)
easily find out about them. Hence, it's going to be geared more
towards things like general music venue descriptions and links, show
listings, blog sites, etc. rather than say, a website directed to a
particular label or band. Also, please limit the information to
things that deal primarily with the Bay Area (a little outside of it
is OK) but otherwise, it would just simply be too much!
Things of particular interest would include (but are not limited to):
-radio stations/programs
-venues
-mailing lists (either for shows or for discussion)
-concert series (please also include information about how to find
out about them)
-places to buy music (a good overall selection... please, no specific
label websites as that can makes things tricky)
-good music supply stores
-blogs (?)
-anything else I may have missed
Things to include with points of interest could be:
-website
-contact info (address, phone number, contact name)
-directions on how to sign up
-short description
If you could submit all information to me by the 25th of August (via
email), that would be great! (It gives me enough time to compile and
organize all of the information) The list will be sent out to music
students during the first week of classes (Aug. 29th- Sept. 4th).
You can email me (contact me off list) at: charity.chan at gmail.com
Thank you very much!
