Matt D-evised:
The Venues page of www.bayimproviser.com is in need of a good weeding
- many of the venues listed don't exist anymore or don't feature "this
music".

On the list, these are the ones I know to be active and at least
somewhat welcoming to people who aren't in a pre-determined group of
musicians or nationally/internationally famous:
1510 8th St Performance Space (near West Oakland BART) - has piano
venue type: living room of house

21 Grand (25th and Broadway, Oakland)
venue type: white cube arts space

Artists' Television Access (21st and Valencia, SF) - primarily a media arts
org. has occasional music shows
venue type: storefront screening room w/removable seating

Edinburgh Castle (Tenderloin, SF) - not very often
venue type: upstairs room from bar

G3 Lounge (Inner Richmond district, SF) - Weds. night series free (no one
gets paid) exp. folx - not the greatest sound system
venue type: bar

Hemlock Tavern (Tenderloin, SF) - Tony B is the booker - most likely
prospects have "rock" connections
venue type: back room in bar

Luggage Store Gallery New Music Series (6th St. and Market, SF) - every
Thursday, they also have a few other sporadic series
venue type: white cube arts space up a looooong flight of stairs

Mama Buzz Cafe (23rd and Telegraph, Oakland) - venue has no P.A. - keep it
on the quiet side so the neighbors don't complain
venue type: side room of cafe

Meridian Gallery (is still in operation) (Union Square, SF) - Mr. Gelb or
Mr. Bickley would know best
venue type: damn I haven't been there

Outsound Presents: SIMM Series (9th and Mission, SF) - has piano

Starry Plough (Near Ashby Bart, Berkeley) - occasional exp. music shows
venue type: bar

Stork Club (24th and Telegraph, Oakland) - changed bookers relatively
recently - used to be more adventurous, now a lot more hardcore/punk/garge
rock stuff
venue type: bar

Temescal Cafe (49th and Telegraph, Oakland) - are they having shows again?

The Lab (16th St. and Capp, SF) - need to submit proposal to programming
committee, check submission guidelines
venue type: white cube arts space
