[NewMusic] Max Roach RIP

Unfortunately, my last memory of Max Roach was from
a run at Yoshi's a few years back. He had really aged,
and could no longer keep the basic time together. It
was really painful to witness, and I left after the first set,
but not before hearing him give an almost desperate plea
for the audience to buy his cds. In any civilized country,
he would be SIR Max Roach, with a generous pension, but
in the US, he was reduced to begging for a few extra merch
sales. Fucking shameful.

I agree that his recordings with Braxton are excellent, but
I always felt that the duo with Cecil Taylor was equally brilliant.
