i really liked that series! last time i was there (now called the
"uptown" ) the performance space was pretty much the same, but the
gallery space is now a full bar. it sounds like shit with amplified
music, but i think it would be a great place to start an acoustic
improv, jazz, or classical music series.

21grand is great but i am really missing a regular series with some
curatorial focus (if not scouting out good local and out of town
acts) -- something like the ACME series attempted to do :) "club-
like" presentations (which 21grand basically is - except everyone is
there to listen!) are cool, but so are "concert-like" shows that
start on time with one short intermission, especially when i'm
feeling stressed for time.

>> PG: Yeah, 104.1 is still going strong, but Micaela and Jeremy say
>> that
>> it could go bust anyday. That pirate radio station is housed in a
>> squatter's house - and apparently there are LOTS of problems there
>> that

besides over-modulating their signal, what gets me is that most of
the time i tune in it's just reggae or hendrix or some pop crap you
can hear on other places on the dial. what's the point of going
through the effort (and risk of FCC raids) to just put on mainstream
stuff? (ha! - i just turned it on now and it was hendrix!) i did
hear some local improv one afternoon on there - the DJ's voice kind
of sounded like Jesse Quattro (??)
