Matt D-eclaimed:
I also enjoy seeing solo sets a lot, but maybe that's the electronic
musician in me.

- personally, I tend to prefer groups over solo sets, just as conversations
tend to be more interesting to listen to than monologues - and speaking of
monologues - did you hear the one about the stripper, the nun, George Bush,
and the 2-liter bottle of 7-up that walked into a bar?

Matt D: When I hear solo sets I feel like I'm getting the pure
person. In group settings, sure you hear how the person musically
socializes, but in many cases the musicians resort to middle ground,
resulting same-isms that you see in different improvised groupings.

- However, I'm sure we could come up with a nice-sized list of solo set
cliches (i.e. same-isms). There are conventions to most every format, that
people consider and adhere to (or play with or ignore) - so I'm not buying
solo=purity, if that quality even exists or is measurable.
