I think this may be a key divide between electronic and non-electronic
musicians. For us folks with laptops, loopers and samplers, we can
easily build several layers of music, without needing to physically
hit each note every time it occurs. I'd be lost trying to do a solo
set without my layers.

Jon Raskin was like:
> it's interesting about solo playing, i do it occasionally to kick me out of the usual but find it the most difficult type of project. my roots in the afro american aesthetic leads me to the open call and response forms even when the language and levels of foreground, middle ground and background are extreme.

Before which, Kristin was all:
> i actually find it easier to go solo, these days, as an electronic musician.
> i am becoming more and more of a control freak. maybe it's middle age
> setting in...
> i like to be responsible for every sound, so that if things go bad, i have
> no one to blame but myself, and if things go well, it's a super-high feeling
> for my ego, because i know it had everything to do with me.
