either get an hourly rate or a project-based fee if they are employed as
contractors. 

I would guess that in theory, were a company to hire a "big name famous
person" whose reputation would serve to create a larger audience for the
product, they could negotiate additional rights in their contract. But the
default contract is probably work-for-hire with no royalties.
