- well, in the defense of those who weren't old enough to remember this
nadir of commercial appropriation of "alternative" culture, (I saw "Reality
Bites" in the theater ... ugh.) there are books available on the subject.
Thomas Frank's "The Conquest of Cool" is a good one. It covers the time
period of the 50s through the 90s. One could always watch such films as
"Network" and "Putney Swope."
