[NewMusic] Matt and Phillip

I haven't been very skilled at putting my whole point of view into words.
Phillip and I both agree that paying attention to a wide array of different
music is important. I guess where I split from most musical folks is that:

a) I don't believe that the "wide array" of interests should include certain
specific albums, artists, or even specific genres, partially because when
you have a nice diverse field like we have in the Bay Area, you'd never get
people to agree on what those should be.
b) I also think that different people might enjoy music for entirely
different reasons. Some people like to analyze and others just like how it
sounds.

If we're looking for uniqueness, I think that depends more on the individual
than on the method they choose to approach music. (Or more specifically, the
individual personality leads to both.) If everybody chose one path or the
other, then things would be more boring.
