thanks all for the thoughtful responses to my
controversial questions.
the bay area music scene is NOT dominated by men. most
of the best players and the best booker are women.
without women the bay area new music scene would not
be smaller, it would be non-existent.
i did not get any emails from guys saying "yeah, you
tell 'em" which i think says a lot about the scene (in
a good way).
i find the heterophobes intriguing: those who find it
repulsive that a male might actually find a female
body attractive.
a few times in my life i have encountered a female who
actually liked me for only my body. some great albiet
short-lived times. sometimes i take objection when
guys talk to women or treat them only as "meat."
than again, i heard this line less than a week ago,
spoken by a woman: "keanu reaves is a crappy actor but
he sure is hot!" why didn't i find that in the least
bit offensive?
you know what i do for a living? i'm a MAID. you
think i don't encounter sexism? puh-lease! but i
don't take offense every time i hear "you make beds
like a guy" or "can you really iron?" i accept the
element of truth in what they say.
the initial quote did not refer to a woman as a pussy;
it referred to a woman's pussy. although i will wager
i have been called a pussy more than anybody else on
this list. in fact in high school my stock retort was
"i wish i were that powerful"
it did refer to a woman as a B&#&#& or whatever which
we all know is substitute for bitch. although this
term does have a gender bias, i take it as
descriptive. let's face it, some people are bitches.
i just assumed the woman Young was referring to was
one, although maybe that's what he calls all women
which is offensive.
i did not mean to imply women are over-sensitive. i
did mean to imply people are over-sensitive.
jacob had a good point about a boundry between what
you say to friends and what you say on a generic
blurb. it's funny sometimes i think of you fellow
banewmusers as friends....
i'm also really thankful i did learn how to spell
"flaccid". my tattoo artist says she can fix it
relatively easily.
