Yes, technology does evolve, but it's not always a
question of some Darwinian fantasy of technology
supplanting other technology.  Sure, the computer
supplanted the typewriter, but it hasn't supplanted
the pencil.  Nor did the microwave oven supplant the
stove.  The electric knife hasn't made non-electric
knives obsolete.  Mainly because they have distinctive
uses & functions that make them both useful.
