[NewMusic] acoustic vs. electronic

Yes, I think that this is important, I enjoy the aesthetic of electronic
sounds being imitated by acoustic instruments and this musical
relationship has pushed a lot of music on both sides of the camp into
realms where it would not otherwise go.

For the record: I am not advocating that everyone drop their acoustic
instruments. I'm not saying that this (i.e. totally acoustic) music is
not relevant or enjoyable. I play saxophone. I like old technology.
I have vinyl. But I am not under the impression that all of these
are the final word on their respective technologies, or sacred in any way.

I just enjoy thinking about the future of music and where we can take
it. I think it is funny to have the attitude that breaking traditional
music forms is expected, but not to develop your tool set. How much
farther can we really take the instruments we have now? I think we have
gone about as far as we can go with them. I enjoy playing saxophone
alot, its a great growing experience, and its fun to play with others.
But when I play it I am retreading old ground. I really don't believe
there is anywhere I can take that instrument that hasn't been covered.
I'm ok with this, and play it anyway. But when I play acoustic
instruments its with that in mind. And so I do other things to try and
push the envelope.

I think its important to look ahead. And when I try an extrapolate on
what I know from the past, in the future I see a whole new host of
instruments that have features of our present ones, but are also wholly
and different from anything we expect today. One persons opinion.
