[NewMusic] acoustic vs. electronic

No, I'm not shitting you, are you shitting me? This was pretty tame
hyperbole...and pretty clearly such. The current direction of this
thread has veered from musical instruments, perhaps it would be more
useful to steer it back that direction.

It seems as if SL was saying something similar ...the comment was
certainly headed that direction for at least some things. I don't
believe there is such thing as "good enough". Perhaps "good enough for
now".

Your point is taken however...

A better question that will avert this being a useless conversation:

What traits of acoustic and electronic instruments would everyone take
to make a valid and progressive hybrid? What is endearing?

I'll go.

I like the cultural tradition of virtuosity that comes with acoustic
instruments, it means a lot of have methods of technique on tested
interfaces available. These are things that must be leveraged on new
instruments.

I like the completely open sound world of electronic instruments, and I
like their flexibility. I also like their mutablility...it is easy to
take two preexisiting electronic instruments and interface them
directly, to create something wholly new.

I like the existing repertoire of acoustic instruments. It would be
nice to use compositions and bring them on to give them more life in
the future.

I like it that acoustic instruments have limitations. This gives them
an elegance and grace and makes them manageable.
