I think the contention with your comment comes with
the word 'superceded', just as my contention with your
previous comments had to do with the word 'obsolete'. 
Technology evolves, but it doesn't always do so by way
of eliminating past technologies. The wheel still
exists, and is still a valid piece of technology,
regardless of whether it's a vulcanized rubber tire or
a donut shaped stone (There are technologies where a
stone wheel would be quite useful, such as
millstones).  It may have been improved, but it hasn't
been superceded by anything.  Just as my clarinet is a
variation (I hesitate to say improvement, though for
my money it is) on the technology of a duduk.  People
still play duduks, though.  It's not a winner take all
situation.
