Okay- the "enlightened self-interest" model- help yourself and if you're
lucky you help others in the porcess, or at least you don't hurt them. I'm
just surprised how off the burner he traditional civil rights/free
jazz/etc. model is- to collectively organize to change things, and
actually help other people, and yourself in the process. . . Though it's
rather unfashionable today, it's done some good things like child labor
laws, the 40-hr work week, public schools, women's suffrage. . . but then
attitudes about individualism would need to change. . . including my own.
