> I wonder what the "commodity-Spectacle society" will do with it.
Actually, the WILL be interesting to see, in light of the conversation
we've been having- who owns the rights to the recordings, and how the
Feldman estate will deal with it. . .
For an extreme example of Spectacular exploitation, last weekend I
watched "In The Realms of the Unreal," the documentary about Henry
Darger. What's missing in the documentary (though hinted at in the
"bonus" interview with the director) is the story of Darger's work, and
his name, after he died. It's fascinating, what does it mean that this
isolated loner's name is now a trope for "outsider art" (which is
itself a problematic construct), and that his works sell for hundreds
of thousands of dollars, etc. The meaning of his name and work are
totally detached from their original context, and now reinforce a
particular socio/economic/class framework. And people unknown to him
(who probably wouldn't have given him the time of day) are now making
huge amounts of money from his work. How can someone "own" Darger's
work?
So the question will be who "owns" the recording at KPFA. . .

Don't thank me, thank Guy DeBord.
Dave- you strike me as someone who would have read "The Society of the
Spectacle". . .
