you beat me to this statement by seconds.

there's a certain attitude that i've found amongst some very
trained/learned/hack musicians that having mastered sets of cliches gives
them this "elite musician" blessing that others do not have. i find that
utterly laughable. it sounds more like consolatory self-ego boosting to
compensate for the fact that in general, we musicians are a dime a
fuckin' ton, even "great" ones.
