Yeah.  "Frustrated total internal reflection" is the key-phrase that
will lead you to technical details.  You can put one of these together
from a webcam, a cheap video projector, a piece of clear plastic,
some infrared LEDs (from radio shack) and (of course) a computer.
So cheaper & more exciting but less portable than a Lemur.
