Most places are finally realizing this. Even
discmakers goes down to 300 for regular CDs (and will
print as many or as few CDRs as one wants).

After a three year hiatus, my own label is finally
releasing something new (shameless plug, you can check
it out here -
http://shop.praemedia.com/praemedia.html). We're only
printing 300 copies of a physical cd (and this
includes ones we will send out as promotion) and
concentrating on making sure we have fairly wide
digital distribution (which is easy enough these days
with things like cdbaby).

Also, in the firm belief that we will probably still
make no money at it, 100 of those 300 cds were given
to the artist. Aside from peoples parents wanting 20
copies, CD sales at shows are always a better bet than
online for smaller acts (note to everyone in the area
- ALWAYS bring you product. freaks like me always like
to leave with a CD).
