speaking of paid staff, what is missing in this is Zac's roll. Is he independent of the venue staff and booking his series or part of the staff and curating? Some many variables for so few dollars.

that's a better deal.

- Well, the thing is, that they also advertise rental rates at $125. Let's
say you get 20 people paying $10 a head (their door charge is $7 - 12) - not
unrealistic - that's $200. Their "booking" deal would get you - the
musicians - only $60. If you paid their rental rate you'd get $75. The venue
would be making more than the musicians until you hit $600 at the door,
which would equal a 50/50 split under their arrangement. Personally, as
someone that runs an arts non-profit, I would question the integrity of my
enterprise if I curated a show and the performers didn't get paid, unless it
was set up with the clear understanding that they're playing for free. But
that's me. I question my integrity, reasons for doing things, and the
efficacy of what I do, a lot.

If the raison d'etre of this series is to have programming for the theater
on an off-night and musicians are willing to risk having the entire door go
to the venue, and both parties think it's a good deal - then, for all
intents and purposes, it's a good deal.

Mr. Walter:
what a lot of people don't seem to understand is that there are very few
venues that will ever do a better financial deal than this. the venue has
to pay rent, electricity, repairs, upkeep, staff, etc.

- pay staff ... I am laughing.

Mr. Walter:
find me a quality venue that gives 100 percent of the
door to the musicians and i'll show you a bankrupt martyr or a venue that
will be gone in a few months.

- on certain occasions, the musicians have been paid more than 100% of the
door at 21 Grand shows. You have played at least one of these shows.
