I think another part of the "puzzle" is that a lot of what's new are older
recordings previously out of print, either being released in physical form
or online. I know that I'm guilty of choosing the "legendary" recording from
before I was born to the contemporary product that might be mediocre. In
general, the only contemporary music that I buy is by people I know/have at
least personally or friends of friends.
