couple of key differences. interest on a home loan
usually doubles the price over the typical life of a
mortage (with current interests rates) which isn't 10
years but usually 20 or 30 (and som fifty year
mortages these days!?). in the end, your math still
works, but is over a much longer period.

also, you have to make enough money and have enough
good credit to convince someone to loan you the money.
I alas, do not make enough to get a loan big enough to
pay for anything in the bay area.
