i used to work at Hyde Street Studios, in the Tenderloin. I still have $4,391 of trade time that I don't see myself using anytime soon. would anybody be interested in buying some or all of it from me? I was thinking .50 on the dollar but am open to offers.
Hyde Street (www.hydestreet.com) is professional, but laid back. they have two rooms. "A" has an awesome Neve console and Studer 820 2" 24 track. "D" has a lame Amek board and a cool Otari MTR90 MKII 2" 16 or 24 track. Of course they both have pro-tools for you suckers out there. The rooms are decent. "A" has a slightly honky-tonk grand piano. both have Hammond B3s, rhodes and wurlizers. oh, the recording monitors suck but whatever. they have all the coolest condenser mics: old Neumanns, 2 AKG C12s, etc. crappy ribbon mic. selection though.
anyway when i was there "A" was $85 an hour and "D" was $65 an hour. you could also get an entire day for cheaper. the main caveat with trade time is it is "bumpable," which means if you schedule a day to record but then someone else decides they'll pay real money on that same day you are SOL. the trade time doesn't include an engineer but does include an assistant who can sorta tell you what is what. Hyde has some great engineers (no banewmus types though) and they used to be $25 an hour.
let me know off-list if you are interested or have questions.
