i remember back in the day, i used to go to shows and between sets stand in the shadows and listen to Damon spout off about musicians, techniques, stategies, etc. that I knew little about. regardless of whether i found him pretentious, i was hungry to learn. wouldn't have been pretentious of me to dismiss him as being pretentious?

ps sorry everybody, didn't mean to stroke Damon's considerable ego by writing this....

The point of all this is that using the term "Pretentious" to dismiss
non-mainstream work is bullshit, and something we all need to be able
to defend ourselves against. I don't think it should be something
anyone on this list should stand for.
I played at a place in Lubjanna that also offered various classes,
one of them was in "Intellectual Self-Defense", I am guess they would
cover such things in that class, which sounds extremely useful.
