as opposed to when Gene Hackman picks up the saxophone after ripping up his
apartment in The Conversation ... which is awesome.

For some reason I've seen several recent movies starring Matt Damon (Good
Shepherd, Bourne whatever, Oceans 13) and was reminded each time how much
better said movie would have been had it been made in the 70s and featured
Gene Hackman instead of Matt Damon.  Matt Damon has the depth of a ginsu
knife.  Yes it's shiny and slices and dices, like the movies mentioned in
the parentheses, but it's flat and lacks character.
