MC's set was one of my favorites of the whole festival. My prediction
was that it might be the case. Something very different from expected,
but still exciting.

The Behrman/Lockwood/Winant evening was my favorite too, though a lot
of people made trips to the bathroom during the last song. (Which was
imagines/sounds of moving water.)

I actually liked the Univac set, and I'm usually not easily swayed by
circuit bending stuff.

PG:
MaryClare's set was the highlight of Thursday night for me. I'm going to
review it, so I won't say more here...

univac? That was pure wank IMO. I couldn't wait for that guy to stop
meandering around...I don't mind the over-abundance of sound-collage in
electronic music, as long as the sounds are great and there some regard
for form.

When I heard Kosugi Takehisa do his set at the Getty in LA a few months
ago as part of the Anti-Art from Japan exhibition, I was blown away by
how masterfully he organized his noise pieces. Sounds were emerging so
fast, they seemed super-human - like no one could possibly think that
fast...when sounds, random as they were, are coming at you at such speed
and funneled into a big collage, it more than worked, it was a total
masterpiece. Univac was the opposite: the sounds emerged like a rather
uncertain attack of diarrhea...there was no real shape to the flow of
sounds...for me anyway. The random aspect seemed uncertain, not
kaleidoscopic.
