1) Subscriptions
Many of you receive the monthly print edition of the Transbay Creative
Music Calendar. Some who do not would doubtless be enriched if they did.
The calendar includes listings of as many of the month's Bay Area new
music events as we can suss out, printed in a handy refrigerator
magnet-friendly gatefold format. Also concert & recording reviews,
commentary and well-targeted (i.e. useful to you!), attractive display
ads. We're having a special offer: for a limited time, the subscription
fee is $0.00 per millenium (12,000 issues.) Send me a message with your
snail-mail address and I'll put you on the subscription list.
2) Advertising
While we pick up a certain number of contributions at the annual Transbay
Skronkathon BBQ, we finance the Transbay mostly from ad revenue. (Let me
shout out right now to Myles Boisen and Amoeba Music, our long-term
stalwart advertisers.) Your ad, should you place one, will be seen by our
300 subscribers and by countless casual readers who pick up that Transbay
at the many venues and retailers that perennially display stacks of the
the calendar.
Ads for non-profit institutions & performers are free. If you're actually
making money and you'd like to advertise, you can send a message to
info at transbaycalendar.org asking for our rate card.
Of course, we take donations. Send email to donations at transbaycalendar.org
for details.
3) Lost Souls
Every month, a few unfortunate subscription copies fail to find their way
to their appointed destinations. Can anyone help track down these
recently wayward subscribers?
Chendoo (formerly of Merced St in Richmond)
Ron Chornow
Lynn Drouin
Christian Gilette
Mark Gorney
Phillip Greenlief (Hey PG! What's your new address?)
Douglas Grunwald
Jona Ostella
Alwyn J S Quebido (Al Q!)
Julie Queen
Matthew Searle
Steven Tobin (Steve's still on the newmusic list, right?)
Victor (formerly of Midfield Ave in San Jose)
(We also lost George Cremaschi, but I don't know what we can do about
international mail. George, do you have a US mail drop or something?)
4) Volunteers
Putting out the Transbay takes a certain amount of work. We crave
your writing: concert reviews, photographs, jeremiads, record reviews,
cartoons, musico-philosophical treatises, scores, interviews, recipes, you
name it. Send email to me or Suki O'Kane, our esteemed editor.
We would dearly love to have help with editing and layout -- in the time
I've been doing the printing (4-5 years?) we've burned out two great
editors and are working on the third. I bet we could keep exploiting Suki
for several years if we gave her a month off every once in a while.
Distribution has always been our weakest suit. A few volunteers to pick
up copies around the first of the month and drop them off at favorite
venues would be most appreciated.
Finally, we have a collating party the last week of every month. A few of
us get together to fold, label and stamp the subscription copies and
gossip about those of you that didn't show up. If you'd like to help with
folding, even occasionally, send me your email address and I'll put you on
the invitation list.
5) The Big One
Most important: the core of the Transbay is the listings. Every listing
that's posted at bayimproviser.com before our publication deadline gets
printed in the calendar. The nominal deadline is the 10th of the month
before the cover date. (Late listings often get in, but don't count on
it, especially for the December and January issues, which we try to get
out early so we can spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with our
grandchildren.)
