as my final statement before leaving the country for a month . . .

ya just can't fight progress. if one becomes obsolete due to changes in
reality, that's the way it is. i don't believe that a computer program
like cope's is any real threat to serious music and it's makers.

in terms of creating music, like henry rollins said, "you either do it or
you don't. the world doesn't care either way." i believe this statement.
perhaps a program like this will change the motivations and outcome of
music, but ultimately there will be some sort of equilibrium. perhaps a
lot of musicians will find musicmaking to be a superfluous task and take
up other pursuits . . . this could be a positive thing. we need more
doctors, not musicians.
