No, but you wouldn't be generating money for Rupert Murdoch or forcing
people coming to your site to look at the annoying ads, or having to see
them yourself everytime you log in.

Michael was asserting that having a myspace page is filling the coffers of
Rupert Murdoch's evil empire. Other people responded that they aren't paying
for the service. 

I was describing how they are, in a sense, paying for the service by
providing free content to stick revenue-generating ads onto, besides being
potential audiences for said ads, whereas in a traditional media model, the
content that revenue-generating ads are stuck onto is paid for by the
network/site.

Let's put it this way. If you built your own website from scratch, and
posted your blogs/pet videos/mp3 clips there, would your site pay you
revenue for your content?
