Since college, it has generally bugged me when non-Southerners say "y'all" -
my college roommate was from Tennessee and she said "y'all" and that was
endearing. When the dude downstairs from New Jersey said it, it was
annoying. Ditto for the housemates from Yankeeland, er, New England.
