Marcos Fernandes and Mike Pride announce their 2007 West Coast Tour in
support of their new duo release, a mountain is a mammal, on
Accretions. Fernandes (California) and Pride (New York) are two drummers who
met one rainy night in Tokyo while on their respective tours in the Spring
of 2005. Collaborations ensued and the two recorded duets one sunny
afternoon in New York City. Their live performances incorporate percussion,
found objects, voice, electronics and field recordings to create
"pieces ranging from minimalism, to maximalism, to drumisms to harsh
electronic noise." (Downtown Music Gallery) A recent review characterised
their sound as "a percussion rooted batch of experimental tracks that are
extremely minimal and informed by a certain freestyle jazz structure with
hints of math rock without the rock bit." (Raves/DJ Fix) Available now at:

The foundation of Santo Subito consists of Steven Dye's bass clarinet and
Milton Cross' violin, and it is upon this foundation that they have built a
commanding framework of sounds both traditional and non-traditional,
encompassing homemade horns, drones, piano, electronics and percussion.
While firmly rooted in neo-classical influences, the band relies heavily on
the two members' extensive experience with the use of multiphonics and on
their unpredictable manipulations of vibrating air and string. Part
minimalist, part wall of sound, part pre-dawn dream, Santo Subito assembles
a unique sonic palate from which they shape their powerful performances,
which can only be classified as "unclassifiable".
