Thursday, May 3rd Club Sandwich and 21 Grand present an evening of noise of
various provenance featuring To Live and Shave in L.A., Rose for Bodhan
(from L.A.), the Weasel Walter Quartet (Mr. Walter was a member of To Live
and Shave in LA 2), and Tourette (from France). 8:30pm, $6-10 sliding scale,
all ages.

To Live and Shave in L.A. was founded by Tom Smith in Miami Beach, Florida,
USA. Smith had previously been a member of Boat Of (Athens, GA, 1979-1983),
Peach of Immortality (Washington, DC, 1984-1990), and Pussy Galore
(Washington, DC, 1985-6); the first TLASILA demos were recorded in July
1990.
" The line up of the 2003 reformation is represented on the new Noon And
Eternity‹Andrew W.K. on drums, longtime compadre Don Fleming, Sightings¹
Mark Morgan, veteran Ben Wolcott, Thurston Moore and Chris Grier. ... It¹s
the most accomplished TLASILA to date, which seems counter to Smith¹s
anti-music legacy. Whilst noise boners are a-poppin¹ across the mediascape,
they¹ve made a freaking lounge disc. It¹s pretty great. The 19-minute ³Early
1880s² from Noon And Eternity gets another loving makeover here in this
edit/remix. Backwards masking meets the long-lost glich meme in a dub tunnel
that loops Smith¹s warble and wail into a bad-trippin¹ house diva. This
vowel-stretching, digital direction should not be a surprise considering
Smith's involvement in the Mego project OHNE (with Dave Phillips, Reto Mader
and Daniel Lowenbrucke). Still, it¹s strange how even the chaos of this
TLASILA is comparatively subtle when put against the generation of current
noiseniks, or even their own past practice." - GEORGE CHEN

Rose for Bodhan began as a high school band with Brian Miller and two
friends, and has been on again and off again over the next 10 + years.
Miller may be best known the head honcho of Death Bomb Arc records and the
Death Bomb Arc tape club, as well as a regular booker at underground all
ages venue, The Smell. The current noise-punk incarnation features Miller
and cohorts Jim Merson (Captain Ahab) on vocals, Nick Murray on drums, and
Chuck E. Cheese children's balls dispensed with glee at the audience.

Weasel Walter Quartet
Masterminded by the eponymous Mr. Walter, the quartet was established in
August 2005 in order to terrorize the world with nuclear holocaust music
made of pure sweat, blood and terror. Rooted in the same sorts of intensity
and power as the prime works of Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, and Peter
Brotzmann the group features Weasel Walter on drums, Damon Smith and Randy
Hunt on bass, and saxophonist John Gruntfest doing go-for-broke power
improvisation. loud . fast . destructive . . . Tonight's set features
legendary percussionist, Calvin Weston, who frequently performed alongside
Ornette Coleman.

TOURETTE (France)
http://noisereviews.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_noisereviews_archive.html
Although he's only released a couple of albums, Tourette is probably the
prime French noise artist. Creating his noise with mostly pedals, he puts
up very harsh, somewhat sophisticated and intriguing noise. As opposed to
most harsh noise albums, this contains (very) random occurrences of
totally random 'atmospheric' and calming passages that last about 30
seconds before the noise starts up again. Also, not all of this is harsh
noise. Some of it sounds thin, slightly reminiscent of Danny Kreutzfeldt
work on Noiseworks 1, which makes a very interesting, intense and
minimalist listen. Some tracks, like 'Glace Mes Pas Vers La Lumière',
start off with what seems to be distortioned, drone-like keyboards. This
is a very diverse album, and that's a big compliment seing as this is
harsh noise. Definitely interesting stuff.
