Generally Midair: a site-specific electro-acoustic chamber work by Tom Bickley

Generally Midair celebrates the new Meridian Gallery location at 535 Powell Street. Meridian recently relocated to 535 Powell Street after 20 years at its old location at 545 Sutter Street. The new three-storey 1911 historic mansion that now houses Meridian and all of its programs increases the performance area to a nearly 50 foot-long resonant space. Generally Midair will offer 50 minutes of guided improvisatory music performed in person and via the net by:

Pauline Oliveros, accordion and electronics online from Kingston, NY, with
Scot Gresham-Lancaster, electronics and Adria Otte, violin
Margot Bevington, voice and Beau Casey, electronics
Bob Marsh, cello and Thea Farhadian, electronics
Nancy Beckman, shakuhachi and Tom Bickley, electronics
Joseph Zitt, voice and electronics

Performers will be stationed throughout the performance gallery and among the audience. Generally Midair uses anagrams of the name Meridian Gallery as guides for improvisatory music making. Each of the nine sections of the piece will be led by a soloist or duo from the ensemble.
