Mark your calendars for two exciting Zoyres shows in December. December 5th we make our debut at Ashkenaz in Berkeley where we will be sharing the evening with the local Greek Rebetica band Smyrna Time Machine. Ashkenaz has a great dance floor, so we expect your bootaaaaaaaaays to be shakin’.
December 8th we’ll be collaborating with the one and only Sandor Elix Katz, author of The Wild Fermentation Book. Sandor lives in Tennessee and is currently touring around the country sharing fermentation skills and fomenting a grassroots movement to reconnect communities with healthy nutritious, delicious, and wholesome foods. Sandor and local fermenters will share their skills and experiences with fermentation and conduct a hands-on-sauerkraut making workshop involving interested audience members (YOU!), all to the live and lively music of Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment. Samples of local ferments will be on hand to sample and savor. BRING A KNIFE, CUTTING BOARD, GLASS JAR or CERAMIC CROCK, and some VEGETABLES so that you can leave the event with your own wild ferment. For ideas of vegetables and spices, see http://www.wildfermentation.com/resources.php?page=sauerkraut.
We are excited to be able to host this event at SOL (Sustaining Ourselves Locally), a beautifully vibrant co-op and garden in East Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood. Read more about SOL at http://www.oaklandsol.org/wp/ and

Zoyres has just recorded a new album. All our work leading up to recording has tightened up the band, which is sounding better than ever. On top of that, Mike has been busy in the kitchen, preparing sauerkraut, kimchee, ginger beer, and kombucha for the upcoming events. A new batch of wildly fermented ginger, carrot, beet, and horseradish slaw brought Mike to tears in the kitchen tonight (grated horseradish is powerful stuff). So come sample new tastes and sounds cultured from old world flavors.
