Andrew Strain and Jason Hoopes have organized an exciting new collaborative
of musicians and dancers from the Mills community which will perform cells
of improvised sound and movement. Strings, sax, trombone, voice, guitar,
percussion, electronics, and others will join a strong cast of dance talent
for an evening of collaborative improvisation. This will be a debut outing
for the group, which is currently rehearsing and exploring options for
future performance.

Seattle¹s Jessie Smith founded Dead Bird Movement to provide a structure for
her hard work, neuroticism, passion and drive. It is a vehicle that unites
her many artistic endeavors. Through the production of Dead Bird¹s
dance-based works, Smith experiments with many artistic disciplines from fi
lm to visual art. Dead Bird has cultivated an aesthetic that is both
exhilarating and disturbing. Smith is not afraid to make herself and her
work ugly. In doing so, she unveils the most unexpected beauty. Smith¹s
choreography challenges physical strength and endurance in a way
that accentuates the nuances of the body. Her wild, bruising movement
embodies an urgent necessity that couples punkish physicality with sharp
line and then snarls the mixture.
